Shooting as a Hobby for Women

In recent years, more and more women have found their way to the shooting range, whether for sport, developing safety skills or personal development.

Shooting is becoming increasingly popular among women

A quiet but significant change is taking place at shooting ranges across Finland.
More and more women are discovering shooting, and practical disciplines such as SRA and IPSC are growing in popularity particularly quickly. Statistics from the Shooting Sports Federation of Finland and reservist organisations tell the same story: the proportion of women among new shooting enthusiasts is growing year by year.

What draws women to shooting?

Shooting is appealing because it offers a genuine challenge, both mentally and physically. For many women, shooting is both a technical skill and a personal journey towards greater confidence, focus and control.

Confidence and Focus

Handling a firearm requires composure, precision and calmness – qualities that many find useful in everyday life as well. Shooting develops focus and confidence in ways that can benefit you beyond your training sessions.

Safety Skills

Shooting is above all a safety-focused sport. It teaches responsibility, situational awareness and practical safety skills - skills that help you stay in control of your actions in other environments too.

Community

Shooting may look like an individual sport, but it doesn’t have to be.
There is a strong sense of community at shooting ranges – beginners are supported, guided and encouraged. Friendships and trust grow through training, and those connections often extend beyond the shooting range.

A Physical and Mental Sport

Shooting isn’t about physical strength - it’s about skill. It is suitable for people of all ages and sizes, as what matters isn’t physical strength, but focus, rhythm and control.

Shooting – Control, Calm and Confidence

For women, shooting offers much more than a technical skill. It is a sport built around focus, calm and control, rewarding patience and perseverance. Once you step onto the range, preconceptions are left behind, replaced by confidence, a sense of community and the feeling that this is a sport for everyone.
