Getting Started with SRA Shooting
SRA (Sovellettu Reserviläisammunta) - Applied Reservist Shooting is a practical shooting discipline that combines shooting skills, safe firearm handling and tactical thinking.
The discipline was developed as a training format for reservists and shooters with a professional authority background, but it is also practised by many civilians who value practical shooting skills.
The aim is to handle a firearm safely, quickly and accurately in varying conditions.
Basic Principles
- All activities are carried out with safety as the top priority.
- Shooters complete shooting stages that combine:
- movement,
- shooting with multiple firearms,
- responding to targets according to the situation.
- SRA differs from many traditional shooting disciplines in that:
- firearms are handled while moving and in dynamic situations,
- performance is based on both time and accuracy.
SRA is a discipline governed by the Finnish Reservist Sports Association (RESUL), and practising it requires:
- Membership in a reservist organisation, such as:
- The Finnish Reservist Association
- The Finnish Defence Guilds Association
- The National Defence Training Association of Finland (MPK)
- Good knowledge of safety procedures and safe firearm handling
- Completion of an SRA basic course and passing the required shooting test
The SRA basic course is mandatory for all participants, and successfully completing it gives you the right to take part in competitions.
